Study with us

Sociology summer work

Overview

Welcome to Sociology. Over the next two years, you will be studying education, families, beliefs in society, crime and deviance and theory and methods.

The work

Sociology refers to the study of society – the way people interact together in society, and how society shapes us and our decisions. Studying sociology will help you to understand different perspectives, to write analytic essays and crucially, to understand the same issue can be seen from multiple perspectives. One of the main issues we study in sociology is equality – how and why society is unequal, and why different people have different chances of succeeding in life.

The worksheet available below to download is designed to provide 5 hours of work to prepare you for studying A level Sociology. It will give you an outline of some of the key sociological terms and theories which you will learn to apply to different topics throughout the course. It will also give you some ideas about the key issues and debates in our society. Hopefully, it will also get you thinking about social issues such as inequality, racism, and sexism and what the best ways to solve these issues are.

In order to complete the worksheet, simply read through the instructions for each of the 3 tasks attached. You do not need to print the worksheet and can complete the tasks using your own materials. Hopefully, these tasks will start to open your mind to how Sociology links into so many parts of life and get you passionately debating topics around the dinner table with friends and family.
