Physics summer work

Overview

Moving from GCSE Science to A Level Physics can be quite a leap. You’ll be expected to be able to use all the skills you have developed from your GCSE courses, including algebraic manipulation, number handling, and graph drawing. You will also learn new practical skills, as well as develop confidence in applying what you already know to unfamiliar situations.

The work

This summer work gives you a head start by helping you to:

  • pre-learn some useful knowledge from the first chapters of the course;
  • practise making scientific observations and using common household items to collect and record scientific data; and
  • practise some of the maths skills you will need throughout the course.

The work should take 4-5 hours to complete.

There are three tasks, all explained in the worksheet under Downloads below:

Task 1: Mathematical practice

Task 2: Collecting and recording data

Take 3: Transition from GCSE to A Level worksheet
