The celebrations continued into the evening with a smaller gathering hosted by the College’s governors at neighbouring Homerton College, where another surprise awaited Jo. Students Ceana Arnold, Jennie Youngs, Leo Ratnasothy and Tim Juckes performed songs with a special connection to her. The showstopping repertoire included Dear Theodosia from Hamilton and Stars from Les Misérables, both of which Jo had previously chosen for her appearance on Cambridge Radio’s Cambridge Voices slot.
Reflecting on the celebrations, Jo said:
“It was very lovely to be able to celebrate with – and say goodbye to – so many colleagues. After my 17 years at Hills Road, there are so many memories and people who have made my time here so special. To have the occasion marked by kind colleagues and students, and with music, felt like the perfect ending.”
Jo’s final day at Hills Road is A level Results Day on 13 August, bringing her 17 years at the College to a close and marking the beginning of a new chapter as current Vice Principal Ali Kirkman takes over as Principal.
