Study and social spaces

Study and social spaces

The College provides many purposeful spaces where students can work autonomously, collaborate on group projects and socialise with each other.

Dedicated study spaces

Many students take advantage of the College’s study spaces during their independent learning periods, whether they are completing homework or working on their EPQ. Our dedicated study areas are purposeful learning environments, with charging points for digital devices – just like you might expect at university.

Library and digital resources

Located on the first floor of the main building, the award-winning library and resources centre is a fully staffed, extensive print and digital lending library with dedicated space for quiet independent study.

Resources

The library contains a comprehensive book collection to support the curriculum, EPQ and wider reading beyond A level. Reading for pleasure is encouraged with a large fiction section. All items can be found on an online, fully searchable catalogue.

The library also subscribes to a wide range of digital resources, including eBooks, academic journals, multi-media collections, magazines and reference collections. All online resources, including the library catalogue, are accessible anywhere.

Research and independent study support

Accessing such a large and wide variety of resources can be overwhelming. Library staff are always on hand to support students, using their expertise and knowledge of the collection to provide guidance with their independent research. Students gain valuable experience using an academic library to prepare for further study at university.

The Study Centre

The purpose-built Study Centre is designed to welcome and support students, particularly those who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. On the ground floor, we have a low-sensory study area and on the first floor, there is a silent study space available for all students.

I sometimes struggle with motivation trying to revise at home; the quiet Study areas really help me to focus on my work

The Zone and resources areas

The Zone is a dedicated space for students during their independent learning time. The space has several desktop computers for students to use. This is also a silent study space.

There are resource areas within subject departments that can be used for independent study between lessons.

The café and social spaces

Whether you want a bite to eat, chat with your friends or grab a breath of fresh air, there are a plethora of places around our campus to socialise and relax.

Hills Café

The Café is located at the centre of the College, opening out onto the Quad. Featuring an array of hot and cold drinks (including Frappuccinos from Starbucks), delicious hot and cold food and a wide selection of pastries and cakes, we aim to cater for every palate.

The Atrium

Centrally located in the College, the Atrium is the ideal space to meet up with friends or to study during independent learning periods.

The Hub and Link

Relaxed spaces for socialising and studying.

Outside spaces

You can enjoy walking, sitting and relaxing on the lawned areas at the College, if you feel like it. We encourage you to make the most of the great outdoors, especially when the sun is shining. The tranquillity garden is an excellent place to go if you want to sit and relax during your busy day!
