Russian Advanced

Russian Advanced

The aim of this course is to develop confidence in understanding and using Russian and to increase students’ knowledge and enjoyment from studying the language and culture of Russia at a higher level. It is designed for students who have already studied Russian up to GCSE (either recently or perhaps years ago), and for those who have a good grasp of the language or have lived or worked in Russia. It will provide practice in all the skills required if you simply wish to consolidate and improve your Russian.

In class we shall concentrate on speaking and listening as well as reading with more reading and written work forming the basis for weekly homework. A variety of activities will be used throughout the course to cover the necessary grammar and vocabulary for a wide range of topics. Conversation and debate will be encouraged whenever possible, and students will also be able to undertake their own research on topics which interest them. We will also be looking at aspects of contemporary Russian culture as the background to the course. Exactly what we look at will depend on the interests of the group and the topics of interest that we find.

The course books: John Langran, Ruslan Russian 3, 2005 (ISBN 978-1-899785-40-7) chapter 6; John Langran, Ruslan Russian Grammar, 2014 (ISBN 978-1-899785-74-2)
