Greek (Modern) Intermediates

This course is suitable for those who have already studied Modern Greek for five terms. Emphasis will be given to topics such as talking about daily routine in the present, the past and the future, using urban public transport, understanding a recipe, talking about actions that used to take place on a regular basis.

Lessons will be taught from "Communicate in Greek” by K and F Arvanitakis Vol 2 (ISBN - 9789608464148, chapters 7-.11

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to practise

  • exchanging information about daily routine in the present, the past and the future
  • saying how long you have been doing something
  • asking, giving and understanding directions when using public transport.
  • compiling a shopping list using quantity words
  • understanding and writing a recipe
  • talking about actions that used to happen

You will also have been introduced to the following aspects of grammar

  • The use of the genitive case when using adjectives
  • the formation of adverbs denoting manner
  • the use of C1 and C2 verbs  in the passive voice
  • the formation of the simple future and the simple past of verbs C1 and C2
  • the use of verbs in the imperative mode with direct and indirect object pronouns
  • the continuous past tense of A B1 and B2 verbs, including the continuous past tense of some irregular verbs
  • the conjugation of some feminine nouns

 

Your Tutor

Lucy Drew Lucy Drew is a Greek native speaker and a graduate of the University of Athens. She is a fully qualified teacher, with a PGCE from the University of Cambridge, and has over 25 years’ experience in teaching Modern Greek to a variety of age groups, primarily adults, at several levels, from absolute beginners to GCSE and AS level. Lucy is very enthusiastic about her subject and is always keen to help her learners to acquire the skills they need in order to communicate effectively in Modern Greek. She also enjoys sharing her love of Greek culture with her students.
