Japanese Improvers

This course will suit people who have already studied Japanese for five terms or who have studied the textbook "Japanese For Busy People 1", can form structures such as te kudasai, te imasu, and can be read and write hiragana, katakana and about 40 kanji (numbers, days of the week, some verbs and some nouns). The aim of the course is to develop your confidence and ability to communicate effectively and express opinions in authentic situations such as social occasions and everyday conversation. Students are expected to be confident using hiragana as well as katakana. The focus of the course is on all four skills, particularly speaking, listening and reading. Basic grammar will be explained to help understand the structure of the language.

The course book is "Japanese for Busy People ?" Revised Edition (AJALT - Association for Japanese Language Teaching ISBN 4-7700-3009-6).

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will have been given the opportunity to:

- Learn new grammatical structures to improve your conversational skills (the te form and nai-form, its formation and its structures)

- Learn and recognise some more kanji

- Express a sequence of events in a variety of situations (asking or giving permission or refusing permission forbidding someone from doing something and talking about what you want to do)

-The students will learn how to use various verb forms (not following the textbook)

 

Your Tutor

Setsuko Jerome Setsuko Jerome trained in Tokyo and taught Japanese as a foreign language for over 20 years. She has taught at all levels, from state primary to university and is also responsible for a number of Cambridge exams for Japanese. She is particularly interested in bilingualism and second language acquisition.
