Portuguese Improvers

Portuguese Improvers

This course is suitable for students who have already studied Portuguese for one year. It is also suitable for those who have experience of living in a Portuguese-speaking country for at least three months. You should be able to use personal information, know and use basic vocabulary related to work and home life, free time, travel, giving directions, going shopping and ordering at a restaurant. You should be able to use the present tense.

This course is based on a communicative approach and aims to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the foreign language. This course covers the basic language needed for everyday situations. It aims to enable students to understand and use Portuguese effectively for purposes of practical communication, to develop some understanding of grammar and to offer insights into the culture of Portuguese-speaking countries, mainly Brazil and Portugal.

This course will enable you to use a broader but still limited range of oral, aural and written language skills. Though the emphasis is on speaking, you will also learn more grammatical structures and sentence patterns, which are essential for further progression in Portuguese.

In class you will get ample opportunity to speak through pair-work and group exercises; listen to authentic audio/video clips; read short texts and complete exercises which will enhance your vocabulary and your knowledge of grammar.
