This course will suit those who have passed First Certificate in English or have an equivalent level of English. You should be at level C1 or C2 in the Common European Framework.
The aim of this course is to extend and deepen your knowledge of the language. It will provide you with practice in speaking, listening and reading. Listening will involve recordings of authentic English speakers, as a source of new vocabulary to be used in speaking. You will be exposed to a range of accents and topics. Speaking will be monitored in order to raise awareness of any mistakes in grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Reading will also be a source of new vocabulary and a basis for speaking.
If sufficient numbers intend to take it, the course will also provide preparation for the Cambridge Advanced Exam, including practice of writing and grammar.
If you reach an appropriate level of English, you will be encouraged to take the Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) exam (http://www.cambridgeenglish.org/exams/advanced/) at the end of the course. Entries are made online via the Cambridge English website.
Please note: If you are new to the college you may want to take the OUP online placement test to ensure that you are placed in the appropriate course for your level of English. You should enrol for 'ESOL with diagnostic test' in the first instance.
