Writing Children's Books - The Next Step (S)

Writing Children's Books - The Next Step (S)

This is a practical course where students will consider key features of creative writing – plot, dialogue and so on – but always with reference to writing for children. It will be a combination of writing opportunities, discussion and teacher-led information.

It is designed for those who have already attended a day course on writing for children (an overview), or for those who have some understanding of market demands.

This course includes a half hour lunch break. Lunch is not provided by the college but there is a cafe and shops near by. Students are also welcome to bring a packed lunch if they would prefer.

Learning Outcomes

  •  Understand key elements of fiction writing – such as plot, dialogue, speech tagging – in particular reference to writing for children.
  • Experience creative opportunities to develop ideas for stories.
