French Advanced Conversation

French Advanced Conversation

This is a course for those with previous knowledge who wish to practise their spoken French at a more sustained level.

The course employs a communicative approach and aims to develop in particular the skills of reading, listening and speaking in the foreign language. It enables students to understand and use French effectively for purposes of practical communication, to show an understanding of French grammar and to offer considerable insights into the culture of French-speaking countries.

Learning Outcomes

Each week a different conversation subject will be used relating to French culture, society, politics and history, in order for you to:

  • Improve your fluency and accuracy
  • Learn and use appropriate grammatical structures
  • Develop confidence in speaking French

The texts used in class and/or at home will be varied and authentic: newspaper articles and book excerpts (e.g. short stories and extracts from nineteenth and twentieth century authors), authentic video materials among others.
