Record number of Hills students competing in the AoC Sport National Championships in April

Congratulations to the Hills Road students who have qualified and will represent the East region at the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport national championships. The East region has 90 students competing and 82 from Hills Road!

Hills Road students succeed in sport!

The following Hills teams will be competing at the championships: badminton, women’s basketball, mixed cricket, cross country (men and women), mixed hockey, women’s rugby, men’s rugby, table tennis and tennis.

The championships are held annually for AoC Sport member colleges, and it is the largest student sporting event in the UK involving almost 1,700 students. The East region will compete against ten other regions for points, with the region winning the most points being awarded the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.

Commiserations must go to four Hills sports teams that narrowly missed out on qualifying for the championships by coming second in the regional finals. They are the men’s basketball, netball, women’s volleyball and men’s volleyball teams, with the women’s football team losing in the regional semi-final.

Hills Road offers 24 different sports, with 37 sports teams that students can join. They are all supported by a committed staff team who give extra time when needed to train the teams. Good luck to everyone competing for the Eastern region at the championships!

Well done to all the Hills students who are going to the national championships, including the women’s basketball and the men’s rugby teams who have qualified for the first time this year. They were up against some extraordinarily intense competition in the regionals
