In the article, published in June 2025, Chris outlines the practical steps the College has taken thus far on our five-year sustainability journey.

Using examples of climate action within our College campus and beyond, Chris holds up Hills Road as an illustration of how educational institutions can start to measure, understand and reduce their carbon footprint. 

Aimed at providing honest, evidence-based insight into what meaningful climate action looks like in the education sector, Chris emphasises that real change goes beyond the classroom, saying, "It’s about embedding sustainability across the entire organisation, everything from procurement and infrastructure to travel choices and strategic planning."

His reflections include how Hills Road has made the bold decision to end student flights for trips and visits, and the importance of having sustainability embedded in our organisational structure (see more about this in our 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, of which 'Planet' is one of the four key strands).
