Hills Road Sixth Form College celebrated the achievements and contributions of its Year 13 students on Thursday 7 May at the annual Student Awards Ceremony.

The annual Student Awards recognise Year 13s who have made an exceptional impact during their time at Hills Road, both within College and in the wider community.

Earlier this year, staff across the College submitted nominations for students who exemplify Hills Road’s core values as creative and confident learnersresourceful and resilient individuals, and responsible and active citizens.

Record numbers

This year saw exceptionally high numbers of nominations across all three categories, reflecting the breadth of talent and contribution across the class of 2026.

A total of 56 students were nominated in the Creative & Confident Learners category, recognising originality, initiative and confidence in learning.

The Resourceful & Resilient Individuals category received 62 nominations, celebrating students who have shown determination, self-motivation and resilience in overcoming challenges.

Meanwhile, an extraordinary 76 students were nominated for the Responsible & Active Citizens award, recognising those who have made a positive impact within the College community and beyond.

Award winners were then announced during the ceremony, with the full list of winners shown below.

The ceremony also included the presentation of the Jack Merritt Award, given in memory of Hills Road alumnus Jack Merritt and awarded to a student who embodies his values of integrity, compassion, justice and service to others. This year’s recipient was Reuben Cowell, recognised for his leadership, community contribution and commitment to supporting students and staff across the College, including through his work with Student Council and Eco-Week initiatives.

Inspiring and encouraging others

Alongside the staff-nominated awards, students were also invited to nominate their peers in recognition of those who have supported, inspired and encouraged others during their time at Hills Road. Peer Award winners were announced during the ceremony, with recipients receiving commemorative Hills Road water bottles.

As part of this year’s event, the College also introduced a special celebration video dedicated to the entire Year 13 cohort. Created using photos and clips submitted by staff and students, the film reflected on the experiences, achievements and memories shared by the class of 2026 during their time at Hills Road.

Principal Jo Trump praised the contribution made by the Year 13 cohort throughout their time at the College.
