Cups and kilometres of kindness fundraisers - social action week

Year 12 students at Hills Road Sixth Form College have raised an outstanding £40,034 during Social Action Week 2026, supporting a wide range of local, national and international charities and community causes.

Social Action Week is a key part of the Year 12 curriculum at Hills Road, giving students the opportunity to design and deliver projects supporting causes they are passionate about. Working in teams, students spend the week planning campaigns, organising fundraising activities and engaging with charities, while developing skills in leadership, teamwork, communication and problem-solving.

This year, students raised an outstanding £40,034, supporting a wide range of local, national and international charities and community causes.

Across the week, students worked collaboratively to deliver projects that combined fundraising, campaigning and community engagement. From sponsored walks and awareness campaigns to quizzes, creative challenges and social media initiatives, students demonstrated initiative, resilience and creativity throughout the week.

Reflecting on the week’s achievements, Sara Macfarlane, Head of Enrichment, congratulated Year 12 for the impact they have had:

“By raising awareness of the causes you care about, you’ve made a real difference to individuals, to our communities, and to the wider world. This week, you have truly been agents of change.”

Sara Macfarlane, Head of Enrichment

The week concluded with student presentations showcasing the impact of each project and the learning gained throughout the process. Representatives from sponsors PEM and supporters Unloc attended presentations and commended students on their professionalism, creativity and thoughtful responses during judging (judges shown above in the image gallery).

Matthew Eady from PEM said of the judging experience:

“The groups had clearly all worked hard on their respective charitable endeavours, from picking the charity, delegating the tasks, delivering on the day and then presenting back. Everyone should be very proud of what they have achieved.”

Throughout the week, students not only raised significant funds, but also developed skills in leadership, organisation, communication and problem-solving. Many projects evolved in response to challenges faced during the week, demonstrating adaptability and determination from the teams involved.

Social Action Week continues to be a key part of enrichment at Hills Road, encouraging students to engage with issues they care about while making a meaningful contribution beyond the College community.

Congratulations to all students involved, and thank you to the charities, organisations, staff, sponsors and supporters who helped make Social Action Week 2026 such a success.
