This academic year, Hills Road is thrilled to be commemorating the 50th anniversary of its foundation as a sixth-form college in 1974.
To commemorate five decades of academic excellence and student success, this academic year, Hills Road Sixth Form College will host a programme of activities across its community. Planned festivities include a guest-speaker programme featuring alumni of the College, a very special Summer Ball, and a series of musical extravaganzas, such as a showcase of students past-and-present, to be held at the prestigious King’s College Chapel.
Celebrations kicked off on Friday 30 August, when College staff were transported back to the College’s founding decade with a 1970s-themed event. Attendees were invited to don their best nostalgic fashion statements – such as bell- bottoms, tie-dye shirts and platform shoes – and enjoyed retro-themed activities, including a ‘guess who’ photo board from the seventies and music from the decade.
Principal Jo Trump said: “It was wonderful to see so many staff embracing the 1970s theme in honour of our founding year. As we commemorate our 50th anniversary, it’s important to honour our rich legacy and the impact we’ve had on generations of students. We hope that this academic year will be not only a celebration of our past but also a great opportunity to look ahead to the next fabulous 50 years of Hills Road.”
Established as a sixth-form college in September 1974, Hills Road is located on the historic site of the former Cambridgeshire High School for Boys. Over the past five decades, the College has become a cornerstone of the community, providing outstanding education and fostering the academic and personal growth of thousands of students from in and around Cambridgeshire. Renowned for its commitment to academic excellence within a supportive environment, Hills Road continues to prepare students for bright and successful futures.
