Hills Road Sixth Form College marked a key moment in its 50th anniversary celebrations with a sold-out concert at the iconic King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, on Tuesday 1 April 2025.

The event showcased the College’s thriving music department in one of the country’s most prestigious choral and orchestral venues.

The performance brought together current students and several guest performers, including two distinguished alumni—Tess Jackson (2016–18), recently named a Classic FM ‘Rising Star’ and now Associate Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra, and Annemarie Federle (2018–20), Principal Horn of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Their performances were a highlight of the evening and underscored the high calibre of talent that continues to emerge from the Hills Road music community.

Set within the stunning setting of King’s College Chapel—famed for its soaring fan vaults and remarkable acoustics—the concert offered a reflective and musically rich contrast to the College’s celebratory variety show at the Corn Exchange earlier in March. The evening’s repertoire, performed by the combined forces of the Choir and Symphony Orchestra alongside invited guests, demonstrated both the range and the depth of Hills Road’s musical offering.

With demand for tickets far exceeding capacity, it was clear that this was a highly anticipated occasion. The venue’s stature and the quality of performance together made for a memorable and fitting celebration.

The King’s College Chapel concert is one of several events taking place throughout the year to mark Hills Road’s 50th anniversary. Further celebrations are planned for the summer term.

It was a real privilege to hear our students perform in such an iconic space. King’s College Chapel offers a level of atmosphere and acoustic quality that few venues can match, and it was wonderful to see our current students sharing the stage with alumni who are now forging careers at the highest level in classical music.

Such is the prestige of King's College Chapel, professional photography is not permitted during performances. However, King's was kind enough to permit Hills Road to have photographer Mark Dalton capture the rehearsal. View some of the stunning photos below...
