The 5th National GenAIEdu Conference, held at Ulster University in Belfast in August 2025, brought together leading voices in education and technology to share ideas on how AI is transforming teaching and learning.

Jonathan Sansom, Director of Digital Strategy at Hills Road took to the stage to deliver a keynote talk entitled 'Can we keep students out of the Cognitive Valley? Educator-Led GenAI Design with Copilot Studio'

The talk was a showcase of our College’s belief that AI as a tool should empower teachers and support students but not replace the human side of education.

Reflecting on the experience, Jonathan said: “It was a privilege to represent Hills Road on a national stage and share how we’re approaching the use of AI within the College.”

Our Hills Road AI strategy, which is all about balancing opportunity with responsibility, includes principles such as:

  • Using AI to personalise learning and give students timely feedback.
  • Streamlining processes so staff can spend more time supporting students.
  • Putting ethics first, with transparency, fairness and privacy at the heart of everything we do.
  • Encouraging staff and students to use AI thoughtfully, always with integrity and academic rigour.

Jonathan added: “It’s fantastic to have a platform where we can lead the way in using innovation to support teachers and empower students. By sharing our work and our values, we’re making sure our community is prepared not just to adapt to a digital future - but to help define it.”
