Batik

 This short course will introduce participants to the art of Batik silk wax dye and tie dye techniques. Learn how to prepare wax for Batik, fabric preparation, colour application, washing out and ironing. Develop your wax painting styles through design-sketching in layers of wax dye, crack Batik, geometric or Batik-Art explored. In addition, participants will be introduced to Shibori tie dye techniques which can be combined with the Batik work in one final piece or used separately with fabric designs.

Tania Verdejo has completed her PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education at the Institution of Education, University of London. She has studied Art History/Fine Art and obtained her Masters in Children's Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. She is a versatile teacher interested in furthering her studies in education research and is a practising Printmaking artist.  

Materials

Batik waxes, dyes and sample fabrics will be provided, additional materials such as larger silk or cotton fabrics may need to be purchased depending on the scale of participants final project ideas; to be advised during the first week.
