Ceramics (T)

Ceramics (T)

This practical course is designed to cater for a variety of levels, from beginner to more advanced learners. There will be opportunities to explore a range of hand building techniques and expand their knowledge on the throwing wheel, using stoneware and earthenware clays. The class will experiment with a variety of decorative techniques, which the learner will then be able to develop into their own style.

Learning Outcomes

The course aims to improve on existing skills in  Ceramic techniques, appropriate to the learners needs. They will experiment with a variety of making and decorating techniques and be able to develop techniques further.  Learners will need to demonstrate Health & Safety and good studio practice whilst using the ceramic department.   By the end of the course you will be able to: ·Work safely and effectively when developing ideas. ·Investigate a variety of traditional and un-traditional techniques. ·Experiment with your own design ideas. ·Explore with different materials, media and techniques to create designs. ·Reflect on your completed pieces.   Please note: It is not possible for students to change booked sessions around in the event of non-attendence or arriving late to class.Due to the number of students in the room and the nature of the subject it causes an issue with health and safety regulations. Too many students in the room makes the studio too busy, therefore imposing on H&S, the enjoyment of the other students in the class and it stretches the tutor further than necessary, impacting on the quality and structure of the teaching.   If we start to allow students to alternate the days in which they attend the course it becomes very difficult to keep track of. Please only come to the lessons you are booked on to. As the course is packed full of vital information, we would encourage students to attend all lessons to get the best out of the course.
