Y12 students battle it out in the General Knowledge Enrichment Quiz League!

Eight teams battled it out for first prize after nine weeks of brain-busting quiz questions in the Hills Road Enrichment Quiz League!

The team ‘Hotel? Trivago’, made up of Y12 students Harry, Sambor and William, were the eventual winners!

The teams were required to create and deliver a quiz round on a subject picked at random, and the winning team’s subject was Disney/Pixar Animated Films.

Second place was awarded to ‘The Olympians’ (Katie, Zosia and Elizabeth) – aptly named as they battled gallantly, and because they chose at random the Olympic Games for the subject of the round, they were to deliver.

Team ‘RFS’ (Rebecca, Finlay, and Samir) took third place, narrowly ahead by just one point of ‘The Champions’ (William, Charlie, and Simeon). Both teams commanded their quiz rounds and used a fantastic variety of UK Politics questions from 2000 onwards and UK Geography, respectively.

Notable rounds also included – Technology, Food and Drink, and Historical Figures. The most surprising outcome was produced by the Reality TV round, of which everyone was conflicted about getting low scores!

The final mystery subject, delivered by Progress and Support tutor Mrs Farrell-Thomas, turned out to be a selection box of gift-wrapped questions on (you guessed it) Christmas and the festive period. Surprisingly, nobody knew that the world record for eating three mince pies was 52.21 seconds… which could be something of a challenge for future Hills Road events, pending a risk assessment!

I was incredibly impressed with the level of knowledge shown by the students. They also worked very professionally in running their quiz rounds on subjects that were, in some cases, unfamiliar. I am looking forward to seeing the breadth of knowledge from this term’s attendees
