The Folklore Draw & Tell creative arts workshop focuses on local folklore and the artist and storyteller team will guide you to create your own artworks and writing in response to seasonal stories, prompts and materials.
This Folklore Draw & Tell one day workshop will provide stories and materials based around local folklore as inspiration for your own mixed media piece.
This session is open to all levels - whether you’re an experienced artist/writer, or just interested in the topic. You may have an existing creative practice in a specific art form. Or you may enjoy trying different artforms.
During the session, you will hear seasonal stories, and receive prompts, guidance and materials to create your own artworks and writing in response. Expand your creative vocabulary, nourish your creative practice and take inspiration in unexpected ways.
Local artist Lizzie specialises in working with folklore. She takes imagery and ideas from traditional stories, and turns them into illustrative prints and collages. She’ll talk you through some of the processes she uses to turn stories into artworks. As an oral tradition storyteller, Maranne tells local and global stories that have been handed down through generations. She’ll guide you on working with stories as a stimulus for writing and imagination.
You’ll have the opportunity to sketch, draw, write and craft in response to the stories. From this you will be able to create a mixed media piece which might include collage, paint, sketching, words and more. You are welcome to bring along the materials you most want to work with.
