Congratulations to Emily and the U17s Girls Roller Hockey Team!

The Euro Girls is a European tournament that takes place in Switzerland. England, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain (who unfortunately dropped out this year) enter their national teams in this competition.

The England U17s Girl's Roller Hockey Team faced Switzerland in the first round and lost 2-1, despite having more possession and shots at goal. However, in the second leg of the competition, they came back with a fantastic victory against Germany, where they scored 5-3. Next, they faced Italy and drew 4-4.

This enabled them to enter the semi-finals where they went up against Switzerland. The team had an incredible game, beating the home nation 8-4. Unfortunately, the team wouldn’t have the same success in the final, losing to Italy, 5-0.

Coming in second place, in such a tough competition, is a fantastic achievement! Well, done Emily for all your hard work! We’re so proud of you.

I would like to thank my parents for always supporting me and encouraging me to do better.

How did you get into this sport?

I have always enjoyed skating from a young age and would attend these weekly fun skates in Chesterton. This is where I found out about roller hockey as there would be a training session afterwards. I would always beg my parents to watch as it really interested me. After a while, I joined in on one of the sessions and loved it and haven’t stopped since.

How did you get into the England U17s Girls Roller Hockey Team?

There used to be monthly National training where players from many clubs would come and train. Due to these sessions and my own club training, I was able to develop my skills to a point where I was able to be competitive with others. This led me to be noticed and selected for the U17s England team.

What were the highlights of this competition?

For England the highlight of the tournament was coming 2nd, as this puts us alongside the top European countries and shows that we are a competitive team. For me the highlight of the tournament was earning a place in the competitions all-star team.

Have you got any big matches planned over the coming months?

An upcoming tournament in September is the World Skate games. This is a senior tournament where the world’s best team is decided. It is a chance to gain experience and meet many players.

What would you like to do after finishing college?

After Hills I would like to carry on my Roller Hockey career, this would involve going to Barcelona, as this is where the best teams are. I am thinking of going to university there, but I have not yet decided what I want to take.
