Hills Road alumna Ellie Dixon has seen her music reach a global audience after her song “Swing” was featured as an in-app demo in Logic Pro 11, released by Apple. The track is included within the software so users can experiment with its production features.
Released in May 2024, Logic Pro 11 is a powerful music production platform used by professional songwriters and producers around the world. The software includes a large library of instruments, loops, and samples designed to help musicians create and experiment with new sounds.
Ellie’s track “Swing” is included as a demo project within the software, allowing users to explore the song’s production and learn from its arrangement and sound design. Having a track featured in Logic Pro places Ellie alongside artists whose work has previously been used in the platform, including Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, The Killers, Lily Allen, and Foster the People.
While studying at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Ellie took A levels in French, Maths and Physics, alongside an Extended Project Qualification where she explored sound recording. She was also an active member of the College’s Jazz Choir. Ellie later went on to study Mathematics at the University of Warwick before pursuing a career as a recording artist.
Reflecting on the milestone, Ellie said:
“Set the scene: fifteen-year-old Ellie has just started learning to produce music on Logic Pro. If you told her that in ten years’ time her song would be in the software, she would not believe you — and I barely believe it now.”
She also hopes the achievement encourages others to pursue music production:
“I hope this helps aspiring producers who don’t feel like they look like or fit the demographic of what a stereotypical producer is. If you want to produce music, you absolutely can. I made this song in my bedroom and now it’s in the software.”
