The Introduction to Gothic Fiction: Frankenstein and Dracula course is suitable for students who would like to read and explore two great works of 19th century gothic fiction.
The course investigates Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the imaginative worlds created in these works. In Frankenstein students investigate science and progress through the lens of the romantic imagination; in Dracula students learn about the imaginative fears of the Victorian era and how these fears are woven into a tale of folkloric horror.
The Introduction to Gothic Fiction: Frankenstein and Dracula course will focus on the two novels in turn. Each session will include a focus on a particular passage and a specific theme.
