Creative Textiles

This course will introduce students to the handmade fabric printing and dyeing techniques. Research a theme which you find visually stimulating around which you will base your textile project. Develop your chosen design into repeat pattern with block printing, hand stencilling or use the Batik dyeing process to create colourful and vibrant bags. After printing your fabric you will be able to work it into finished products, make sample fabric prints choosing to embellish your fabric using as many of the techniques as you like. In addition we will also be making Nuno felted chiffon scarves, a creation that you can take home and be proud of.brbrRecommended materials: You may wish to personalise your work with collected materials such as beads and accessories, natural cotton, linen or silk fabrics to dye.

Learning Outcomes

· Develop skills in fabric stencilling, lino printing/block printing, embellishing and more.br·Experiment with the Batik dyeing processbr·Nuno felt making; incorporating fabrics such as silk and chiffon into felt and fine scarf making.br·Be able to design and make an original creation by the end of the course Although the majority of the materials will be provided by the college, it is recommended students bring with them a sketch book, beads, buttons, sequins, thread, yarn and scarp fabric.        

Your Tutor

Tania Verdejo has completed her PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education at the Institution of Education, University of London. She has studied Art History/Fine Art and obtained her Masters in Children's Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. She is a versatile teacher interested in furthering her studies in education research and is a practising Printmaking artist.
