Guest speakers arrive to discuss the big questions!

On Monday 22nd January the college was very pleased to welcome a panel of speakers to celebrate World Religion Day.

We were joined by Rev. Nell Whiscombe from St. Johns Evangelist on Hills Road, former Hills Road Religious Studies teacher Cathy Michel, Kelli Nelson from St. Barnabus church on Mill Road, retired Buddhist Abbot Rev. Master Leandra Robertshaw, James O’Neil, a graduate from the Muslim college, and Imam Zakarya Gangat from Cambridge central mosque.

The speakers took part in a Question Time-style discussion where they answered a selection of queries that were submitted online, and on the day, by students. These questions led to a series of rewarding conversations between our speakers. These ranged from the relationship between different world religions, the nature of faith and belief, and the role of religion in politics, education and law.

Both the audience and speakers found the experience highly rewarding as they were able to hear an array of opinions from a multitude of faiths. We hope that this event was thought-provoking and demonstrated the value of faith-based conversations to our wider college community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions and gave their time to come into the College to answer them. We hope that this year’s World Religion Day.

Hills Road is marking World Religion Day with a Question Time event that celebrates the diversity of faith contained within the college, by celebrating the diversity of views that different spiritual traditions hold.
