Enrichment sport

Enrichment requires enrolment and weekly attendance. An excellent way to enjoy a sport in a social environment, make friends and play non-competitively. These are run for the duration of an hour in the Autumn and Spring terms. You will have a choice of a different activity in the second term in most categories.

A fun-based Badminton session, for players of all abilities.

Competitive sport

Most of the major teams compete on Wednesday afternoons in the Association of Colleges (AoC) leagues, cups and regional tournaments. Commitment is at least 6 hours a week, September - April.

Some sports teams will be required to leave lessons early for a small number of away fixtures. Commitment to covering the work missed is essential. Also, it is expected that you will be available every Wednesday until 6pm. Work, driving lessons and other engagements will not be accepted as a reason for not being available.

Fixtures can be tough as you will be playing against some of the best colleges in the country.

I really enjoyed five-a-side football! It was fun playing with friends and felt like a break from academic work

Club sport

Enrolment for Club sports teams is offered at the start of the academic year. Some clubs have regular weekly training, others meet on an adhoc basis. Some sports will depend on the numbers of interested students.

You will have the opportunity to compete in your discipline, at the Association of Colleges (AoC) Indoor Championships. This was a new AoC sport in 2020 and Hills were fortunate enough to win several medals over the years.

More information

If you are successful in gaining a place in one of the competitive sports teams, this will count as your enrichment. As a result, you will not be required to sign up for another enrichment in September. If you wish to play for a club sport and count this as your enrichment, you will have to contact the coach/teacher in charge in early September and they will be able to add you to the register. If you wish to play an enrichment sport, you can sign up for this in September.

For some competitive sports teams (Badminton, Basketball, Cheer, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Netball, Rowing, Rugby, Tennis and Volleyball), trials usually take place in June. You can register your interest in competitive teams by completing the online form, a link to which will be sent to you in May if you become an offer holder.

All club sports and remaining competitive sports host trials in September and details will be confirmed at the Freshers' Fair in September. Students can sign up to enrichment sports in September on a first come, first served basis when the enrichment sign up system opens.
