Chinese Beginners Level 1

This course is for complete beginners.

 

The course concentrates on pronunciation, listening and speaking, with limited Chinese character recognition. This is an enjoyable class in which to start learning Chinese. Within just a few weeks you will have a basic knowledge of the language and be able to have simple conversations in Chinese. You will be introduced to Pinyin.

 

The course will follow the textbook 'Easy steps to Chinese 1', chapters 1-6, , ISBN number 978-7-5619-1650-6.

  

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:

 

• Learn Chinese pronunciation and its representation in terms of the phonetic alphabet

• Greet people, introduce yourself and a third party

• Say the days of the week, dates and the months of the year

• Learn numbers and exchange phone numbers

• Talk about your age and birthday

• Talk about where you live

• Learn Chinese strokes, scripts and simple Chinese calligraphy

• Learn about Chinese sentence structures

 

Your Tutor

Dou Heng (Jessica) Dou Heng is a senior qualified language teacher. She has many years of teaching experience with different levels ranging from beginners to advanced. She is always encouraging and finds interesting ways to help students quickly understand and grasp Chinese. She designs lessons to suit individual needs.

Pay by credit or debit card over the telephone. Please call the Adult Education Office on 01223 278002 Monday to Thursday 9am to 7pm and Friday 9am to 4pm during term time and Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm out of term time.

Please send you cheque together with a completed enrolment form, which you can find by clicking on ‘How to Enrol’ on the left hand side, to the Adult Education Office, Hills Road Sixth Form College, Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 8PE. Please enclose a SAE if you require a receipt.

Please note full refunds can only be made if a class is cancelled or closed at the discretion of the College, or if you cancel your enrolment no less than two weeks before the course starts.
