Italian Beginners Level 1

Italian Beginners Level 1

A course for those with a love of Italy and the Italian culture and who would like to understand and make themselves understood while visiting or working in Italy. No previous knowledge of Italian is required. The course will be based on communicative methods and active participation from all students will be strongly encouraged. A variety of activities will be used including role-plays, watching films, group work, games and listening to CDs. Students will also learn some basic grammar so that they can begin to manipulate the language. There will be regular homework to consolidate what has been learnt in class.

The language will be taught in the context of the cultural and social aspects of Italy, with an initial emphasis on everyday situations such as ordering a meal at the restaurant or asking for directions.

The coursebook is 'Nuovo Espresso' (Alma) ISBN 978-8-8618-2318-1, or with DVD-rom ISBN 978-8-8618-2317-4, chapters 1-3.

Photocopies will also supplement the course book when necessary and we recommend students have a ring binder, which could also have a section for vocabulary, grammar and homework.

This course feeds into Beginners level 2 and then Beginners level 3 in the following terms.
