Hills Women’s Rugby squad

Thank you Cambridge Rugby club!

The Hills Road U18 Women’s Rugby squad has recently enjoyed significant success. From fixtures with other colleges such as Samuel Whitbread and Oundle, to competing in 7’s tournaments, such as Rosslyn Park 7’s, and the AoC National championship finals at Nottingham, Hills Road U18 Women’s Rugby squad has become a dominating force.

Their positive attitude to training days has been a major factor in their development. Experienced players have worked with the coach to help the girls with less experience in the sport understand the game and the techniques required to deal with the contact elements of the game.

Coach Adrian Medd has maintained healthy links with clubs in the local area and several of our players are members of Cambridge and Shelford Rugby Clubs. Recent discussions with Cambridge Rugby Club have led to a very generous donation of body shields, which the team will be able to use during the new season.

The Women’s rugby squad doesn’t hold trials but instead runs a taster session in June/July. Coach Medd has always welcomed new players, even girls who have never played before. Therefore, it is even more important than usual to make sure that all the girls are sufficiently trained and protected to combine the contact elements with the passing, evasion and running skills that are part of the sport.Back to all news

The body shields will be invaluable in ensuring that contact techniques can be practiced safely. The welfare of the Hills Road players is always of paramount importance, and we are grateful to the Cambridge Rugby club for this generous support.
