Book an exam as a private (external) candidates including ex students

The College welcomes ex-students and private candidates for a wide range of A-Level and GCSE written examinations with any of the awarding organisations including Pearson International GCSE’s and Cambridge International IGCSE's. We are unable to accept applications for qualifications requiring internal assessment such as coursework or a practical unit; this includes A Level sciences and most languages.  Candidates are also welcome for BMAT, STEP or any other test from the Admissions Testing Service. National Extension College (NEC) students can take their exams at Hills Road, all arrangements must be made directly with the NEC. For further information please contact the Examinations office on 01223 278090 or email: exams@hillsroad.ac.uk  

  • Entries for November 2019 GCSE re-sit in English and Maths will open in September. 
  • Entries for January 2020 IGCSE entries will open in September.
  • Entries for summer 2020 will open in November.

University Tests

Applications for the University admissions tests including BMAT will open in August.


Examination certificates are valuable documents as they are the official legal record and should be looked after very carefully.  We cannot provide a replacement. The Exam Boards have information on their websites about obtaining a certifying statement of results should you lose your certificate. They will charge a fee.  If you are unsure about which exam board to contact see https://www.gov.uk/replacement-exam-certificate/if-your-old-exam-board-no-longer-exists. We no longer hold certificates before the academic year 2015-16.
Certificates from 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 can be sent to you by special delivery on payment of a fee. The application form will open in September. Please allow up to 28 days for delivery.
