Physical Education is a well-established academic subject, which offers you the opportunity to explore sport on a national and global level. For example, when medals are won by as little as thousandths of a second how do elite performers train for optional performance? How have we emerged from a nation of plucky losers/serial ‘bottlers’ to a nation that expects? Will genetic technology lead to a new and extraordinary age of athletic achievement? There is also the opportunity to further your own sporting performance or involvement, making use of the superb sporting facilities we have to offer.

“PE is by far my favourite subject. The range of areas within one subject are fascinating and make for a great course that can be applied to so many areas of life. The studies we do are so easily applied to everyday life, whether that be out on a run or just how much water you are drinking. It has really helped me to improve my knowledge of various sports and more specifically my knowledge of what my mind and body are experiencing when I’m playing sport."
George Kohler
“The teaching style is enjoyable because it is not repetitive and boring. The teachers always have different activities or tasks to complete, and the practical sessions are really useful to apply your knowledge and help you understand newly learnt information. The teachers are very supportive and always offer individual help on coursework, classwork and homework so I never felt that I was struggling or behind. The highlight of PE was definitely the trip to Boston in Year 13. We were able to watch many sports events and we had useful interviews with high level coaches where we were able to gather primary research for our coursework. PE complements biology, as it covers similar topics in more depth. This allowed me to advance my knowledge in biology as well as PE.”
