Media Studies is a fast growing subject, increasing in popularity at both advanced level and degree level. It equips students with the skills and knowledge to engage critically with the wide range of media they encounter in everyday life. The AS and A level Media Studies course give you a broad experience of many different aspects of the media, plus the opportunity to carry out your own research and produce your own print and video products. As well as giving you opportunities for the development of key skills you can expect to develop a wide range of specific and practical skills such as video-editing, using a digital stills camera, and communicating your ideas using new media, as well as research, analytical and discussion techniques. The course lends itself to a wide range of approaches: class and group discussion, practical projects involving still photography and video, visits by speakers, and analysis of a range of films, television programmes, magazines and advertising.

“I generally prefer the practical side of media as I like to experiment with shot production , however the topics covered in the written work were made interesting by class discussion; also when assigned tasks it was good to be able to be independent but have help and support there if needed. The relaxed atmosphere in lessons makes them enjoyable and learning isn’t rushed so the topics are fully developed and understood.”
