Students choose history because they enjoy it so much. It is a varied subject, widely recognised both as fascinating in its own right, and as central to an understanding of current affairs. It is well regarded both by universities and employers as a qualification for a wide range of courses and areas of work. It is particularly useful for university courses in Politics, Economics, English, Modern Languages, Art History, Law, Archaeology, Philosophy, Sociology or Theology. History graduates go onto a wide range of careers, from areas of obvious relevance like heritage work, teaching and research, to fields like journalism, law, accountancy, management, the civil service – and even midwifery!
History is one of the most popular subjects at Hills Road, and the number of students opting for it has multiplied in recent years.

“I had a strong interest in Early Modern History even though I had not previously studied it in depth at GCSE. The teachers are very passionate about the subject. It is factually based but also strongly reliant on opinion, meaning you can debate what the correct viewpoint is and there are no wrong answers.”
