Formerly referred to as interviews, we are now using the term ‘guidance meetings’, as we feel that this more accurately reflects the nature of this discussion.
Invitations to a guidance meeting are expected to be sent to in-area applicants:
- whose application has been received by the closing date
- who place us as first choice A level centre in their CAP application
- who satisfy our minimum entry criteria*
- who are qualified in at least two subjects applied for (on the assumption that a third subject for which they were qualified could then be explored at the guidance meeting)
In 2017, we expect to carry out most guidance meetings on Monday 6th February 2017, but there is no significance attached to being invited on a different date.
*For an interview or offer you will need an average estimated grade profile of at least B (or equivalent) across your Key Stage 4 qualifications, based on Mathematics, English Language and your next four best full GCSE/IGCSE subjects or level 2 vocational subjects (Diploma/BTEC etc). If needed, an online tool is available on the new student information page of our website labelled:
average B grade checking tool.
With the number of offers made to ‘out-area’ applicants increasing, we have changed the way we offer post-application advice and guidance. Unfortunately, we are not normally able to offer out-area applicants a guidance interview. Instead we have added more detailed information to the College website to ensure that we continue to provide advice about subject choices and career plans. In addition, we capture key information about out-area applicants’ subject choices and their needs through an online ‘course confirmation’ process.
