Ski Course 2019
Each February half-term since 2003, the College has run a ski course in the Ziller valley, in the Austrian Tyrol near Innsbruck.
All abilities are welcome, from complete novice to expert. If you have not had the chance to ski before, the course is a great opportunity to do so in a supportive peer group. You will build confidence in your ability to develop new skills as much as new friends; do not worry if you don’t know anyone else applying! In the autumn we provide lessons in the UK for beginners at a nominal cost, to maximise safety and value in Austria. Once there, everyone benefits from coaching on technique as they are guided around a variety of ski areas, on slopes and in groups suited to their ability. Course members overall are an even mix of Years 12 and 13, from diverse backgrounds, brought together by wanting to meet a challenge that is as much mental as physical, in an inspiring setting, for an experience on which they will draw long after.
We keep costs down and provide six full days skiing, instruction, equipment, meals, accommodation, transport and evening events, for around £900. Payment for Year 12 students is generally half on places being given at the end of September, with a last payment in mid-November. However, please speak to us in confidence if you would wish to arrange a different schedule.
Students and parents are invited to a briefing on Wednesday 19th September, at 7pm in the Science Lecture Room,
when much more information will be presented. This is also an opportunity to meet Year 13 students who went on the course last year and the staff involved and to ask any questions. We hope that you will consider joining the course as a part of the wider experience of Hills Road College!
