Students at Hills Road Sixth Form College engage in a process of formal review of
their progress. This is organised into two strands which we call Formative and Summative.
The Formative Review involves teachers, tutor and student discussing subject and
overall progress with the intention of identifying achievements and difficulties
so as to help students improve their attainment. These reviews occur three times
over the normal two year programme, twice in the lower sixth and once in the upper
sixth, and a broad quantitative summary is sent home to parents following each review.
The Summative Review is intended to report on student progress in a qualitative
manner and occurs twice in the programme, once immediately before the summer break
in the lower sixth, when comments on progress will be sent home along with any points
of concern, and at the point of application to university when the review is used
as the basis of the College’s reference
for the student.
Review paperwork will be delivered as follows:
-
Parents registered with HillsMail will receive individual
copies by email.
-
Students with no parent registered with HillsMail will receive a single printed
copy of the review through the post to their parents at their home address.
-
Students will receive a copy of the review through their College Email.
If copies of reviews have not been delivered, parents are requested to first ask
their student for a copy. If that fails please contact the relevant tutor
who will send another electronic copy.
