Holly
studied English Literature, History and Art History. During her Gap year she travelled to Australia,
where she worked in Sydney for Bonhams and Goodman, Australia’s leading Auctioneer. She then travelled to
India where she volunteered for a charity in Delhi, teaching art to disabled children. She currently has a
placement with Youth Business International, a branch of the Prince’s Trust, working as an intern helping
develop skills and new businesses with young people in developing countries. She plans to read History and
History of Art at Edinburgh in September.
Duncan
studied Biology, Geography, History and General Studies. Having had a part time job at Waitrose whilst at
Hills Road, he became full time over the summer, to earn money for his travels. In October, he
travelled to the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh and spent a month living in the jungle assisting a conservation
team based in the Koh Kong region, trekking and exploring small river tributaries by boat. After this he went
to the French Alps, working for a family ski holiday company as a resort assistant. While there he completed the second half of his BASI level 1 and is now a qualified ski instructor
for a snowdome or dryslope in the UK. Next year he hopes to complete a two week course which will qualify
him to teach on the mountain. “Helping out at a local ski school was really enjoyable and good for my
French too! Working for the season was fantastic for my skiing as the sheer number of hours I was able to
clock up on the slopes over five months just cannot be done on the odd one week holiday.” Duncan is planning to read a BSc in Conservation,
Biology and Geography at Exeter University.
Louise studied English Literature, Photography and Religious Studies before joining the
“Open Mind Project” and volunteering at a primary school in Thailand. She found the experience very rewarding
as she was in the Tsunami Relief Centre in the south, and most of the children she worked with are orphans.
At the time of writing, she was travelling in India. Louise will be going to St Andrews University to read
English and Theological Studies.
David studied Biology, Chemistry and French. During his Gap year he worked until
Christmas as a lifeguard to raise money for his travels. From January to May he worked in Bogota, Colombia
where he was a teaching assistant in an International school. He also did some work with a sixth form charity
in the barrios, or “squatter cities”. He is currently travelling around South America before going from Los
Angeles across America to New York. On his return he will be working as a lifeguard at King's School, Ely before going
to Exeter University to read BioSciences.
