Hills Road Music teacher and tutor Helen Higgins and students of the chamber choir were delighted to present Roger Herriot from the Royal British Legion with a cheque for £893.
The money was raised through the retiring collection at the College’s carol service at Great St Mary’s Church in December, marking the centenary of the end of the First World War.
The College’s annual carol service is attended by students, parents, friends and staff and this year included a reading of the poem The Christmas Truce by Carol Ann Duffy which was followed by the College Chamber Choir’s rendition of Silent Night in German in tribute to all those who fought in the First World War.
Helen Higgins said “The choice of poem and the carol, Stille Nacht provided a moment of poignant reflection in the carol service when we were able to honour the memory of those who gave their lives in the First World War in order to secure and protect our freedom.”
