20 Mar 2017
Hills Road Sixth Form College students launched the College’s 10th annual Fun Run on Tuesday 14th March. To date, this event has raised £81,600 for local charities!

This year’s fun run is sponsored by ARM and will take place on Wednesday 26th April with all the proceeds going to Teenage Cancer Trust.

ARM’s Corporate Responsibility Manager, Simon Humphrey said, “ARM is pleased to be sponsoring the HR5 again in its anniversary year recognising the popularity of the event amongst the students and the significant funds raised by students and staff for Teenage Cancer Trust.”

Around 700 students and staff will be wearing t-shirts displaying this year’s logo, which has been designed by Hills Road student Nayana Cheriyan.

For the first time, this year’s fun run will be a colour run and participants will be invited to pass through a ‘colour station’ at the College’s sports ground in Luard Road where staff will shower them with colour powder before they continue on the fun run route along Sedley Taylor Road and out onto Long Road.

Look out for participants in their brightly coloured t-shirts running, walking, hopping and skipping the 5 kilometre route.

Ayden Duffy, Physical Education teacher at the College and one of the organisers said, “Hills Road students are helping to organise this year’s colour fun run as part of their Extended Project Qualification. They will have the opportunity to develop their public speaking, organisational, communication and publicity skills.”

“We are hoping to raise £10,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.”

Alongside the fun run, around 20 students and staff will be cycling a 45kilometre route starting out from the College, passing through the Shelfords, Newton, Fowlmere, Ickleton, Duxford and Whittlesford, returning to the College.

Judith Anderson from Teenage Cancer Trust said, "We are honoured that Hills Road have supported our charity this year."
