In January 2007, the College became the first in the country to be awarded Ofsted’s new ‘designated outstanding’
status, by virtue of being assessed as grade 1 (outstanding) in all five inspection categories:
The College's previous inspection by OFSTED was during the academic year 2001/2. In the 2002 inspection report,
the College was awarded the top grade of ‘Outstanding” for eleven graded areas.
The full Inspection Reports may be accessed through OFSTED’s website at www.ofsted.gov.uk (post 16 section).
In 2002, the College was awarded Learning and Skills Beacon status in
recognition of excellence in teaching and learning, and in leadership and
management. As a result, the College has been involved in disseminating
the outcomes of innovative curriculum projects to schools and colleges
throughout the country.
The International Schools Award was presented to the College by the British Council in
recognition of the diverse range of high quality curriculum links that the College has
established with partner schools and colleges around the world, including France, Germany,
Sweden, Spain, Italy, South Africa and China.
In November 2002 the College was awarded The Queen’s Anniversary Prize for the work of the
Art and Design Department in the community. The Prize is awarded every two years to a number
of colleges and universities for outstanding work in a wide variety of fields. This is the
second time the College has been recognised in this way: In 1998 we were awarded the Prize
for the quality of our learning environment.
